There’s something to be said for Biblical wisdom
I never quite understood the attraction of drinking. I guess I am one of those rare people who don't drink, if for no other reason than I just don't like beer or wine. Actually I lie. I am partial to a Toblerone cocktail, and don't mind those vodka things that taste like a chocolate milkshake.. Maybe it's just the chocolate part that gets me! But beer & wine? I really can't see the attraction. Maybe I just haven't found the right one to suit my taste buds, but it all tastes like various mixes of vinegar & turps to me. You can see I probably don't have a very refined palate! Nonetheless, I have made quite a career for myself in being designated driver. No, really.. Most people seem to think that the reason I don't drink is because of my religious convictions, which is kind of funny, because Jesus himself famously turned water into wine to keep a wedding celebration going! There's so many biblical references to grapes, wine, wineskins and the like that it defies logic that drinking should be "of the devil" which so many religious people seem to believe. Sure, there are lines that can be quite easily blurred, but everything in moderation.. 🙂 And then there's this Proverb which I caught when someone posted the reference on Facebook. Given the scenario with Covid lockdowns, curfews, online learning and pandemic induced stresses and anxiety, this seems to be the perfect antidote. And it's from the Bible! Proverbs 31:6-7 "Let beer be for those who are perishing, wine for those who are in anguish! Let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more." So there you go. We're all perishing - some slower or faster than others, and we're all definitely in anguish through this pandemic. The advice is therefore clear. Keep safe, everyone!
