This Almost Got Me Interested In Maths
Grant is a High School Maths teacher, and one of our closest friends. To us, the close friend bit comes well before the Maths bit. Each year for the last few years (lost count - how many years now??), Grant crafts a video especially for (and most often with) his year 12, 3-unit Maths students. Students that he has nurtured through their senior years on the intricacies, formulas and theories that is Maths at the highest level. It's kind of a way of recapping the final year with his students, and finishing off with something memorable. And somehow keeping it all strangely Mathematical at the same time (you can check some of the vids on his YouTube channel). This year, of course, is different. The classroom - for the last few weeks at least - has been remote. Distant. Online. And we are all trying to cope with this new paradigm with kids at home and coming to terms with "remote learning". Good teachers will take it in their stride. Grant takes it to a different level completely. If you're into online lessons, let me say, this is how it should be done. If you have kids that have been at home and need a bit of a Maths refresher before heading back into the school classroom, here's a little update on a few Graphing Functions that will obviously come in handy when it comes to HSC time later in the year. Teaching formulas, but not sticking to the formula in teaching it. Absolutely makes sense to me. I always considered Maths to be one of the more interesting subjects anyway...
